First of all thanks to everyone who has been involved in all the benefit activities recently. We will be getting into some serious fund-raising in the near future in terms of grant applications and the like as well as the first Warzone annual rubber-duck race (all will be revealed). While we are still in negotiations over the Victoria Street building, we are not holding our breath and are going to start looking at other potential venues. We might still get a positive outcome with Victoria Street yet but there's no point holding out for it. We've learned a lot from these negotiations and are strengthening our position as a result. Rest assured we will keep going until there is a new centre in Belfast. As ever for all those who want to help, and there's a lot of you, the best thing to do now is organise benefits. The stronger financial position we are in when we first set foot through the door, the better position we will be in the long term. Also coming soon will be a new website where there will be no adverts and you can say **** as much as you want - Onwards and upwards...Those kind folk at WarzoneNews 8th September 2009 Anarcho legends Subhumans are playing in Auntie Annie's tomorrow night - Marty who used to do the Warzone demos and mastering will record the show for CD release - Come along, bring as many mates as you can and let's make it one to remember!!!

Benefit shirts possible logoHey guys here is the logo i made for the benefit shirts. what do you think? anyone else got any ideas? i was thinking 6 quid for the shirts as that covers the $2.50 (roughly i will get the exact figure when the shirts arrive) for materials and then the rest goes to the collective.

News 4th August 2009There is a picket today at the Belfast branch of Thomas Cook at Donegal Square West at 1pm over Thomas Cook workers who were arrested in Dublin. Come along and show your support!News 23rd July 2009A few of us met yesterday and went over the blueprints of the new building and we've submitted our ideas to the architect for costing, building possibilities etc If he gives the thumbs up we will enter negotiations. We hope to get the rent down, get a rent-free period and a long term lease etc but it all hinges on planning permission to change the use of the building as well as an application for an entertainments licence. We'll take things one step at a time though. It's great to hear all of the encouragement and response to this new initiative has been overwhelmingly positive. Fingers crossed it will work out but don't worry if it doesn't we'll keep at it until it does!News July 06 2009Here is a possible design for a new logo for Warzone - what d'ya reckon? - check out the discussion boards and give your opinion - other ideas welcome too...
News July 02 2009:After a second viewing and meeting last night we have decided to have a gowith the building on Victoria Street. We had a bloke from building control out to advise us on what we need to do to make our project viable. There are a number of changes we need to make but no major works involved. An architectis coming out next week to check things for us. The next stage is that we go to planning and enter a proposal to change the building's usage. Once cleared we will then go for the entertanment licence after which it is all go. In the meantimewe will begin fundraising in earnest. All help is appreciated. It's your centre too!

The Warzone Collective began in 1984 when local punks and anarchists decided to pool their efforts and get their own venue, practice rooms and social space. By 1986 the Collective opened its first premises in Belfast which provided a vegetarian cafe/drop in centre (Giros Belfast), practice and office space, venue and screen printing workshop. It developed organically on DiY and anarchist ideas and soon became a focal point for anarchists, punks, radicals and other n'er-do-wells. In 1991 the Collective moved to a larger and more ambitious venue. Over the years thousands of people passed through the doors and were exposed to new ideas such as anarchism and DiY politics and the Centre became the counter-cultural hub for the greater Belfast area and beyond. Towards the end of 2003 the Centre closed for a number of different reasons but it left a gap in radical Belfast culture. In 2007 discussions began and eventually in 2009 the Collective has reformed and is going through the process of trying to establish a new venue. News of developments will be posted here as it happens. Everyone is welcome!
